HI, I’M SCARLETT. WHAT’S YOUR NAME?

Starbucks

I’ve been thinking a lot about you recently.  Wondering where you’re visiting from?  Who you are?  What brought you to my blog?  Why you keep coming back?

If you and I met for coffee, what we would have in common?  What we would talk about?  And what’s your special Starbucks order? (Venti Green Tea Latte at 140 degrees, please.)

Would you mind answering a few of these questions for me in the comment section below?  I have a stat counter and see the visits to my blog… but I don’t want this to be a one-way conversation.  I want to know more about you.  Who are you?  Please introduce yourself.

My questions for you:

1.  What’s your name?

2.  What city/state/country are you from?

3.  What do you do for a living?

4.  How old are you?

5. What brought you to my blog?

6.  Why do you come back?

7.  What’s your special Starbucks Order?

8.  What’s a difference you hope to make in the world?

OUTFIT OF THE WEEK.

Scarlett-Lillian-01

One thing I love about living in Florida is that it feels like summer all year round.  Most of the time.  And because of that, we get to break fashion rules like wearing white all year round, and flip flops are ok to wear in the winter.  But more importantly, it gives me the chance to wear bright colors, not just during the summer, but all year long.  And this summer, I’m obsessed with neon.  It’s funny, in putting together my inspiration board for how I wanted this blog to look and represent my inner-fab-one, I put a few neon fashion choices on it… only to realize, when I looked in my closet, I didn’t have a lot of neon.  So I made a quick trip to Forever 21 and stocked up, and now I’ve gone a little overboard.  Good thing Florida allows me to wear it all year round.

In today’s outfit of the week, the one question I have gotten when wearing it is, “Is it a dress?”  Nope, it’s 2 pieces.  Denim tops were also something I didn’t really have in my closet because a lot of the time, denim feels too bland to me.  But when I saw this top with the gold spikes, well, then, I knew I could make an excuse to rock some denim.  And in further efforts to glam it up, I put it with this neon yellow skirt.  I then paired it with an old Dolce & Gabana clutch that one of my sweet brides, Amy, bought me as a thank you gift for shooting her wedding. And though it has been a few years tucked in the back of my closet since using the purse, it’s quickly become my favorite summer accessory all over again.

HANDWRITTEN LETTERS.

Extraordinary-05Remember the days before email and blogs and Facebook and texting, and you would go to the mailbox and open it up to receive handwritten letters from people?  When was the last time you received that?  Or when was the last time you sent that?  For me, it’s been longer than I can remember.  I have one girlfriend who refuses to add text messaging to her cell phone plan, and instead she sends cards with long handwritten messages.

And I love that.

I know every time I see something in the mail from her, even if it’s once a year, that it always makes my day.  Why?  Because I know that she took a few minutes out of her day to think about me enough to take action to write out thoughts from her heart.

I want to be more like that.

Yet, life gets in the way.  I get busy.  Work has it’s demands.  Work travels exhaust me.  My dog needs to be fed.  My mom needs mother/daughter time.  The house needs to be cleaned.  The laundry is piling up in addition to the excuses.  And handwritten letters don’t get written.

But I’m on a mission to change that.  And I challenge you to join me on that mission.  Today I’m going to stop and write a handwritten letter to somebody out of the blue to simply tell them that I love them.  Who can you stop for a few minutes to show that you care?  It doesn’t have to be long.  It can just be a quick little note in a quick little envelope with a quick little stamp and a quick little walk to the mailbox.  Don’t let time fly and the excuses pile up because your words just might be the exact healing words they needed to hear that day to know that they aren’t alone on the journey.  That they are loved.  And that you love them enough to take time out of their day to show them that love.  They are worth it.  And your laundry can wait.

Before finishing this blog entry, I just walked to my mailbox and put something in the mail.  Now it’s your turn.  🙂

OUTFIT OF THE WEEK.

Scarlett-Lillian01

Rather than show you just one outfit this week, I thought it would be fun to show you how to utilize a basic wardrobe piece to create two completely different outfits out of it.  Today I’m using that little black dress every girl has in her closet to show you how to take it from day to night in your closet.

From day to night.
From day to night.

DAYTIME

Whether you are looking for a way to spice up your normal boring attire for your desk job, or just doing errands around town, the look on the left works great for daytime adventures.  Take the little black dress and add a standard white collared blouse tying it with a tiny knot at the waist.  Then take yesterday’s hair and throw it on top of your head in a playful pontytail, with the ponytail holder wrapped in a piece of hair from the back and pinned to give it a more dressed up feel.  Add a touch of color with the flats and jewelry accessories, and you’ve got a look that looks put together without looking put together.  Of course errands around town, or a day in the office, wouldn’t be complete without a big handbag to hold everything you need to get the most out of your day.

NIGHTTIME

For the look on the right, this is when you let the little black dress do what it does best… show off your womanly curves.  Added a bit of glam with your tallest pair of stilettos and edgy jewelry.  And this is the time to let your hair down with lots of teasing for maximum height. Replace your big purse with a little hand clutch, and you’re ready for a night on the town.

A special thanks to my glamorous friend, style expert Lady Katherine Taylor who helped show me that there’s more use I can get out of those basic pieces in the back of the closet that I tend to overlook!
